Loses over a minute per dayFeb 16, 2010 I was very excited when I got this watch as an anniversary gift, but was quickly disappointed. It claims to be a certified chronometer, but it loses about 62 seconds per day. My son got a watch out of a box of cereal that keeps better time. This watch is a nice piece of jewelry. It looks very nice. Just don't plan on it being much more accurate than a sundial.

serial number was scratched offJan 29, 2010 I have been researching Omega Seamaster watches for couple of months, and went to several authorized dealers in my local area. They usually offer <15% discount + tax. So it would be around $2900 if I buy from them. I was impressed by the price Amazon offered (~$800 saving), although I know that Amazon is not an authorized dealer (therefore, the Omega warranty is void). I recieved the watch 2 days after placing the order. It is beautiful and same as what I saw from the local dealers. It came with authentic box and 3 cards (surprising! since I thought the warranty card would be missing. Of course, the card is not filled with proper dealer names etc. so it is void technically). Unfortunately, when I carefully examed the back of the watch, I found that the serial number on the watch was scatched off (or more precisely speaking: destroyed). I can see something, but it is fussy, and even with good magnification, you cannot read the numbers. So I cannot match the serial number on the watch to the number on the card. It is really disappointing. I trust Amazon and I think it is authentic. But without a serial number on the watch, it is difficult to justfy spending >$2000 on this watch. It would be really difficult for resale and even to get it serviced by Omega later if the watch needs an overhaul. So I had to return it. Another thing is when you return, you will have to use USPS insured mail and it is kind of inconvenient (I used to just drop off at UPS stores for other returns). Amazon does well for my return and they refund pretty fast after received the package (within one day), so I was pretty happy about that.
Overall, it is a nice watch and I really liked it (5 star for the watch) and Amason service is good and return/refund is fast. However, be aware that when you buy from internet (even with trustful site like Amazon), there is still risks that the watch somehow is not the same (i.e. serial number not intact). Of course, it is a $800 saving. For someone who doesn't care about the serial number, it is still the best deal. So be aware of the risk and make your own decision wisely. That is why I am giving it a 3-star rating.
Hope this is helpful.

Great watch. Incredible Value.Dec 05, 2009 First let me say I like watches. However, I do not like to pay a lot for watches. Those $5K+ watches interest me but I would never pull out my wallet to indulge my thirst. For me, value and performance must be part of a singular package and this a rare watch that satisfies my tough but economical demands.
Pros:
-----
* Bullet proof. Had mine for over a year and this watch has surpassed all my expectations.
* The sound of the internal mechanism is almost musical. Put your ear to it and listen to the crystal like chimes.
* Zero scratches on the sapphire crystal or the top watch region and I am very abusive to my watches.
* Looks great in all attire without the over-the-top style. It is a bold watch but with a reserved humility.
* Bought it for $2100 back in 2008 and it is worth every penny.
Cons:
-----
* This is the mid-size model which is 36m. However, due to the design, it actually looks like 35m on the wrist due to a smaller sapphire crystal opening. It's an optical illusion but as result, is only suitable for those with very small wrists.
* Wristband and especially the clasp plate area is very prone to scratch marks.
* Rotating bezel is prone to fine sand causing stuck or rigid rotation. This is not a design issue but something to think about when you get on the beach. If you do get sand or other fine debris in there, you can pop up the rotating bezel with a small swisswarmy knife blade and just brush it clean with a toothbrush.

Chronometer is offJul 30, 2009 For the price it's a good deal. Ser# verified by omega Switzerland. Omega secacus NJ could not verify numbers. After a week it's off by 20 seconds. Dissapointing chronometer for the price.
