5Excellent G-Shock!Feb 19, 2010
By Selcaa "Executive"
This is my first G-Shock watch, and I must say I am very pleased and impressed with my purchase. For those of you who are looking to buy a G-Shock, I suggest you look into buying this one. Don't let the white color scare you, it looks a lot better in-person than in the pictures they provide here. Being a college student I decided I needed a decent watch to start keeping better track of time. I could have done this with a $20 watch from Target, but I wanted to treat myself to something a bit nice for a change, and something that could withstand my daily activities. (I'm also very athletic.) With that, I think I've made the right choice.

Here are some details about the watch:

Let's start with the straps. I haven't owned any other G-Shocks, but this G-Shock has straps that doesn't fully extend 180 degrees. Meaning it won't lay flat on a table like some of the traditional watches. It stays stationary in a position where it almost encompasses in a full circle without it fully coming together. There are no moving parts where the strap meets the actual watch head. Instead the straps themselves are flexible enough to bend and fit an individuals wrist. I like the way they did this because it feels secure in my hands and ultimately feels compact and well structured. The straps themselves seem to be made of good quality resin. It definitely doesn't have that 'cheap' feel to it. I love the detail they put into the buckle, where they imprinted: "CASIO, JAPAN" into the metal.
I believe there are enough holes in the strap to accommodate almost anyone's wrist; thick or skinny, unless you're some sort of body builder or someone who has huge wrist.

I like the actual size of the watch head. I'm 6 feet tall with a decent build and the watch matches me perfectly, no awkwardness or anything. The tiny letters that they imprinted on the inside of the watch might be an issue with people who can't see small print, but I believe once you get to use the watch and get accustomed to it. The buttons "MODE" button makes beeping noises every time it is clicked, which hardly bothers me at all. The instructions in the manual is easy to understand and follow, so setting up the watch and learning all of its functionality shouldn't be a problem for most people.
The back light does it job well. The button is easy to push and access. When you press it in the dark you can see the numbers clearly. The bezel around the watch has the words of what each button does engraved into it. I can only see a problem later in the future when you wear it around a lot and you get a bit of dirt into it, which honestly shouldn't stop you from buying this watch. The word "G-Shock" at the top of the bezel is also engraved and colored in dark purple, which is different from the "G" engraved into the back light button which is a lavender color. This difference is actually pleasing to look at and actually matches the watch well. The three circles that indicate the battery life, alarm settings, and the 'live-seconds-timer' also adds nicely to the look of the watch, and actually serves a purpose. On the back of the watch they have the metal covering that's engraved in letters.

I believe this watch has all the function it needs AND more to fulfill its duty as a multi-functional watch. I don't think anyone will be complaining about what it has and what it doesn't have. It simply has it all.

You also have to love the price they sell this watch for here on Amazon. It's a lot cheaper than buying it from the actual Casio G-Shock site, and you don't need to worry about it being fake like some of the ones they sell on eBay and such. I ordered this from the West Coast and it arrived from New York in less than 4 days.

UPDATE (4/6/10): I've had this watch for some time now (about a month and a half) and I still wear it daily. For the most part, the watch is exactly as it was when I first bought it. It's still white and grabs attention from people when I wear it. However, there has been a slight change in the color in some parts of the watch. For example, the underside of the watch band has gotten a little 'dirty' with slight discoloration, and by this I mean that its not as "white" as it used to be. It's very strange, but the outer top part of the watch band, which is the part that is mainly exposed to the outside world, is still relatively clean. I would have thought it would be the other way around..
I have experimented with cleaning the watch a bit using hydrogen peroxide diluted with water (30% hydrogen peroxide / 70% water), and it seems to clean the underside of the watch relatively well. It also works well in cleaning any minor dirt or spots the watch might get while worn. I've also tried cleaning the underside of the watch, and I must say it cleaned better than I expected! It still looks good and new!

I also want to let people know that I have on many occasions bumped my watch onto things (the first time I had a minor physical contact between my watch and another hard surface I freaked out HAHA) BUT do not worry. I like to think that I am a careful person, but there are times when I can get careless. Casio is known for its durability, especially G-shocks, and I can vouch that they create their products to withstand certain "physical abuse." To my utter delight, I have no known or visible scratch on the bezel of my watch, or the band of my watch, or the glass screen of my watch. So even with all those times I accidentally brushed my watch onto something, my G-shock still runs accurately and looks great!

UPDATE (10/9/10): I'm still wearing it! Overall the watch still looks the same as it did when I bought it. There are some very very tiny chips off of the paint on some of the edges of the watch, but it's hardly noticeable. I know for a fact that this came about because I've been handling the watch a bit more roughly (ex: quickly taking it off and throwing it on hard surfaces, bumping into things, etc.) Every time I go swimming at the beach or the pool, the watch seems to clean itself quite nicely, it gets whiter every time I do. I still grab attention from people during lecture or when I'm casually walking around. I've also noticed many other people wearing this exact watch both on TV and amongst my peers. I wear it wherever I go!

UPDATE (10/17/11): Still have this watch, and I still wear it everyday! The watch functions normally/perfectly, and my battery life is still on 'High'. Considering how much I wear this, it's still in great condition. It does have a few VERY small chips off the paint here and there, but it's hardly noticeable. The underside of the watch is also more discolored, (meaning it's not as white as it used to be) but that hardly bother's me at all. I still recommend this watch!

5Functional, Stylish WatchJan 29, 2010
By Thomas Miller "Observer"
This is not my first G-Shock and it won't be my last. Casio is definitely on to something with their practical G-Shock line. I'm not sure how environmentally friendly the solar power aspect is, but it is quite freeing not to have to worry about replacing the batteries. For lack of a better word, the Atomic feature is cool - although I can't recall a situation in which I required the amount of accuracy it provides. The button that controls the light (the large "G" at the 6 o'clock position) is easy to use and find in the dark, an improved placement compared to previous 'shocks. The white case and band is attractive. Time will tell if it dirties or yellows easily. The only negative issue I have is with the seller. It was advertised as free shipping, but arrived postage-due.

5Handsome, comfortable and ACCURATE!Mar 12, 2010
By R. Messer "mr_wonderful"
This is really a very nice watch. Being white, you get a lot of folks taking notice. Anyway, the watch is easy to care for, totally accurate (with the "atomic" radio updates) and a pleasure to have. It's become my daily, knock-around watch. Controls are easy to understand too.

5Really great looking watch.Feb 27, 2010
By Kevin Yeap
This watch looks really nice. However It stains fairly easily (I had a new pair of jeans and my hand inadvertently rubbed against them throughout the course of the day resulting in a small blue stain). The watch's atomic timekeeping feature is not working well for me but I suppose that's because I don't have a very good place to put it at night (the manual recommends the watch facing upward, resting on the strap, and facing outside a window). Other than these two minor things I love this watch. The watch performs great and it has a lot of interesting features. Also a white watch goes great with almost anything!

4Very nice watchApr 30, 2010

Real pretty watch. Bought it for my boyfriend. Was a big time piece but surprisingly lite. It took a while for me to set the time, date, and day but I finally figured it out. But you can buy this watch cheaper at other places. I purchased my watch at Champs Sporting Goods for under a $100 and Wal-Mart had this exact same watch in black for $60. They didn't have a white option just black but the black watch looked nice too. Overall a very nice and stylish watch.
