4Great Watch. Comparison To GW5600J-1Nov 25, 2010
By Amazon Todd
About 5 months ago I bought my first G-Shock: the Casio Men's GW5600J-1 G-Shock Atomic Tough Solar Watch. That watch is a G-Shock that looks very similar this one, but it has atomic & solar capabilities. This watch, although it cost me just slightly more, is neither atomic or solar. I was skeptical if I would really like this watch. My primary attraction was the design: all black. A few things I noticed compared to theGW5600J-1: the band on this watch is softer with a slightly different feel, you notice it right when you put it on your wrist. Also, the metal on the band is black, vs. silver on the GW5600J-1. The buttons on this watch are easier to use than the GW5600J-1. Actually, the GW5600J-1 kind of annoys me how difficult the buttons are to push. This watch is easier to use in that respect. This watch could be difficult to read in very low light conditions, but because the buttons are so easy to use, turning on the light with the press of a button is painless. Overall, both the GW5600J-1 and this watch are great watches. The GW5600J-1 is probably a better value, but doesn't have the unique style this watch has. I'm happy to own both, and would recommend this watch. I gave 4 stars instead of 5, only because the lack of solar/atomic at the same price point just doesn't make 100% sense to me. Also: the photo of this product on Amazon might look a little grey, but this watch is definitely black, not grey. Another big advantage over the GW5600J-1 is that this watch displays BOTH the day and date on the screen at the same time. The GW5600J-1 only displays day or date, which is incredibly inconvenient. After owning both G-Shocks for many months, this watch has become the watch I wear on a daily basis and I highly recommend it. The dark display does take just a little getting used to, but now I don't even notice it and I never really find myself having a hard time reading it.

5The ideal KISS watchDec 16, 2010
By Michael B. Spotts "theopenlife.com"
Keep it simple, stupid.

I graduated to this watch from the $12 Casio models that survived the 80's to look cool again. Trouble was, their watch bands broke periodically and they generally felt a little flimsy. Their faces scratched easily. Their night lights were blindingly bright.

I wanted something no-frills and stealthy for daily wear. Not an eye catcher at first glance, but easy on the yes at second look. This one does it. The watch is slimmer than most (enormous) G-Shocks but can hold its own on my wrist. The inverted display looks awesome. I have not had trouble reading it as others have mentioned, but if I did, it would be an excuse to use the beautiful display light, which, I might add, is gentle on the retinas. The band is comfortable and fits my wrist with lots of eye-holes on either side for adjustment. Solid metal buckle.

This watch doesn't do one-thousand things. I have an iPhone for GPS/compass/etc. This watch does what it must, and it does it well. Timer/alarm/date/day/time. Enough already. It's a winner.

4Excellent watch but one minor flawJul 10, 2010
By cards
The minor flaw is it has the option, even shows the little symbol, to set the watch so when you turn it 90 degrees the light will come on automatically(during the night time). But when I called Casio they told me that function only works on the pathfinder edition (most expensive one). I guess I didn't read all of the features closely, but why would they have that function available if it doesn't work, but whatever, now I know. Other than that the watch is great: durable, lightweight, stylish (I personally love the all matte black finish or else I wouldn't have gotten it), reads excellent in light, LED light works great, the band does not eat at my skin like others I have owned in the past and I love how G shock still has the throw-back squared style watches (another personal favorite). If you are looking for a durable watch with the features it has at a great price (Casio $99, I got it off amazon for $67 (no shipping)), I would defiantly recommend this watch. So far I am a G shock customer for life :).

4It is, what it is.Feb 08, 2011

This is my first time back with the G-Shock line of watches since the mid 90's and the thing that initially grabbed my attention was the diversity of the G-Shock line from the earlier years. After researching the different models I found myself right back with the same basic style but with a tactical twist. Hard to get away from such a simple but rugged design. The 5600MS-1 is just that. I almost went with the atomic/solar version but decided the 5600MS-1 was really all I needed. The only thing i would change about it would be to have more than 1 alarm. I work shift, so my wake up time changes but it's simple enough to adjust. The black out feature looks cool and i've had no problem seeing the display unless the lighting was low and with a simple push of a button, a substantial backlight illuminates the whole screen/display very well. Another reason I chose the 5600MS-1 was size. Many of the other G's seemed too big to wear with long sleeves without catching or constantly adjusting. This G is big enough to do the job but small enough to wear comfortably with any clothing. Good deal so far and time will tell if it has the old G-Shock dependability. I'm betting it does.

5Great watchJul 09, 2011
By MuscleMethods
I have had this watch for 2 years now and have never had any problems with it. Some people say they have issues with reading the display in the sun or when it is bright out but I have yet to have that problem.
